This year's program, God-willing, will be held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, a diverse, multicultural region blessed with beautiful landscape and rich tradition. An intimate resort facility has been secured for the program, which will offer the necessary amenities to ensure a comfortable yet intensive Rihla experience. Applications for the full program (which includes room and lodging) are now closed. Local residents in Malaysia can still apply for the Commuter Package (details below). If you missed the registration cycle, you can watch the program (free) by tuning into the Rihla Livestream hosted on www.deenstream.tv.

A journey with a purpose: an inner transformation rooted in sound knowledge and spiritual discipline.

The main objective of the Rihla curriculum is to provide students with knowledge that is both a religious duty for each Muslim to learn (fard ‘ayn) and immediately applicable in life.

When people say that the Rihla can change your life, it is absolutely and unequivocally true. I understood what it means to be human and discovered the richness of our tradition.

Application & Program

All participating students must complete and submit an application. If families are attending, each individual must complete a separate application. Please indicate on the application in the designated area if your spouse or any other immediate family member is traveling with you. The acceptance process is based on a rolling admission. We recommend, due to the limited space, to submit your application right away. Late submissions will not be reviewed. Students are expected to arrive on June 22 and depart by July 14. As in our previous programs, students are expected to stay for the entire duration of the program. Tuition includes full lodging, meals, program registration, course materials, and site visits for the duration of the program. Participants are responsible for their travel costs to and from their location of origin.

Commuter Package: Local Residents

This year, the Rihla is offering a special commuter package for students local to Putrajaya who do not require lodging. Students staying at home can apply to attend the program and still enjoy full program benefits. Package includes classes, course materials, meals, and more. The Commuter Package requires students to arrange their own lodging off-site and transportation to and from the program. Commuter students are expected to attend the entire Rihla Program. Additional details will be provided upon acceptance. Apply using the button below.

New Course: Level 2 Theology

This year, in addition to Introductory Theology, we will be offering a second aqidah course, Level 2: Advanced Theology. This advanced course is designed for those that have attended a previous Rihla program and/or have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of Islamic theology and have taken an equivalent course. The course will cover a variety of topics from selections of intermediate texts studied by students of theology.

Main Application Closed April 1st.

Experience. For over 20 years, the Rihla Summer Program has cultivated a unique experience that includes a specialized balance of focused study and spiritual development. The program design includes engaging classroom education, collaborative group study, devotional practices, and inspirational site visitations.

Purpose. Our aim is to deliver a holistic program experience for all participants, students and teachers alike, where they each return home with a renewed sense of purpose and thirst for knowledge.

Study. The Rihla curriculum centers around the famous Hadith of Jibril which articulates the core branches of our tradition: iman (faith), islam, (practice), and ihsan (spiritual excellence). Classes focus on providing students with knowledge that is both a religious duty for each Muslim to learn (fard 'ayn) and immediately applicable in life. Along with the studying the obligatory sciences, students will also be given the foundational principles of spiritual excellence, so they may cultivate their internal states towards the path of God-consciousness and sincerity. To give a more robust experience, supplemental topics will also be taught, giving students a broad exposure to the richness of the Islamic tradition and its applicability in the modern world.

The Rihla Summer Program:
Journey for the Sake of Knowledge

Along with the obligatory sciences, students will also be given the foundations of spiritual excellence, so they may direct themselves towards God more completely through developing the internal states leading to sincerity.
