Brotherhood and fraternity are noble characteristics that bind together people with common interests and beliefs, and engender within them friendship and mutual support for one another. Allah, Exalted is He, says in the Quran,
"The Believers are like brothers to one another, so promote peace and reconciliation among them and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy". (Chapter 49, Verse 10).
Our Noble and Eloquent Prophet (peace and mercy be upon him) has also said:
"None of you has complete faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself." (Bukhari).
We are currently living in the age of personal interest, and
there is a need to revive the spirit of fraternal love and
friendship. Using Imam Al-Ghazali's "Duties of Brotherhood in
Islam" as a guide, this course will explain the critical role
fraternal love play in drawing near to Allah. The course will
cover the practical ways in which one can love someone for the
sake of Allah, the benefits and rewards of loving someone for
the sake of Allah, the responsibilities and duties of loving
someone for Allah, and the ways in which to strengthen those
bonds for one's benefit in this life and the next.
The course on The Duties of Brotherhood is part the Deen
Intensive Foundation Essentials of
Scholarship Certification Program. Students who take this
course will receive credit towards the certification program
when they complete the required test for the class.
